Trinity Church (formerly Sovereign Grace Church of Cleveland) was launched in January, 2000 by Don DeVries, from Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, MD, and a group of families from Northcoast Community Church. As a part of Sovereign Grace Ministries, the church was planted with the desire to experience an authentic Christian community established on the good news of the gospel. Since its launch, the church has sought to embody the God-centeredness of Reformed theology and the passionate pursuit of God emphasized in the charismatic community. In 2006, Don DeVries returned to Covenant Life Church, and Darren Lander assumed the role of Lead Elder. The church initially met in local schools, first in Garfield Heights and later Westlake, before renovating a teen nightclub in North Olmsted in 2010.
In 2011, the church welcomed members of Covenant Community Church of Grafton, Ohio. In 2012, the church made the difficult decision not to affiliate with the newly-reorganized Sovereign Grace Ministries. This precipitated the name change from Sovereign Grace Church to Trinity Church in 2015. The name was chosen as an expression of our mission statement: To make disciples who live for God’s glory, love as Christ’s people, and labor together in the Spirit’s power.
